In September 2022 I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. I’d been experiencing tremors in my right arm since early 2020, the clearest symptom of the disease. But, understanding the disease as I now do, I can see other traits, signs and symptoms that are characteristic of Parkinson’s.
I was given the conventional medical wisdom, by the neurologist who took 5 minutes to diagnose the condition. That it is degenerative, incurable and requires a lifetime of medication.
I sat in the car park, 10 minutes later and gave in to the shock and grief. I called a couple of friends and my husband to share the news, between sobs. I created a support group on Telegram. I went for a long walk with my husband and dog. And in the days that followed I researched, and shared the news with more friends.
I was 51 at the time of diagnosis. I had a growing freelance copywriting business which helped support my family - two children aged 9 and 12. I wasn’t ready to resign myself to a slow decline in capacity and ability, and I have never liked taking pharmaceuticals.
So when a friend forwarded me the link to Dr Janice Hadlock’s pioneering work to reverse Parkinson's without medication, I jumped.
This is the story of my journey with Parkinson's Disease. It’s a story that features fear, anxiety, confusion, despair. It also features love, wonder and genuine gratitude beyond anything I have felt before.
I will never be the same as before the diagnosis.
And that is an extraordinary blessing.
Aw, thank you Chris xx
